Enhancing Creativity With Combined Transcranial Direct Current and Random Noise Stimulation of the Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and Inferior Frontal Gyrus

چکیده

Creativity is a fundamental human accomplishment from scientific advances to composing music. The left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) are important metacontrol hubs in flexibility persistence brain states, respectively. Those related divergent thinking, insight problem-solving, convergent thinking. In this double-blind, between-subjects study, 81 healthy participants were randomly assigned one of three groups (n = 27) that received combined transcranial direct current stimulation–transcranial random noise stimulation (tDCS-tRNS) protocol with the anode over DLPFC cathode IFG (+DLPFC?IFG), opposite montage (?DLPFC+IFG), sham group (+DLPFC?IFG). Both active tDCS-tRNS 20 min 1 mA tDCS (100–500 Hz) tRNS. was assessed before (baseline) during Unusual Uses, Picture Completion (PC), Remote Association test (RAT), Matchstick Arithmetic (MA), Nine-dot (ND) problems. Only +DLPFC?IFG had significantly higher scores compared RAT (p .009), PC fluency .018), originality .007), ND MA .032). Overall, ?DLPFC+IFG greater all creativity tests sham. Implications theory discussed.

Modulation of Drug Craving in Crystalline-Heroin Users by Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex

Background: Drug craving, the main cause of relapse and a major motivator for drug use, is a challenging obstacle in substance use treatment. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive neuromodulatory technique, has shown promising outcomes in treating different neuropsychiatric disorders such as drug addiction, more specifically on drug craving. The aim in the current study...

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of the Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex Shifts Preference of Moral Judgments

Attitude to morality, reflecting cultural norms and values, is considered unique to human social behavior. Resulting moral behavior in a social environment is controlled by a widespread neural network including the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), which plays an important role in decision making. In the present study we investigate the influence of neurophysiological modulation of DLPFC ...

Effects of left prefrontal transcranial direct current stimulation on the acquisition of contextual and cued fear memory

Objective(s): Behavioral and neuroimaging studies have shown that transcranial direct current stimulation, as a non-invasive neuromodulatory technique, beyond regional effects can modify functionally interconnected remote cortical and subcortical areas. In this study, we hypothesized that the induced changes in cortical excitability following the application of cathodal or anodal tDCS over the ...

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex in Patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to Improve Decision Making and Reduce Obsession Symptoms

Objective: Recent studies on treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have investigated noninvasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve patients’ impaired emotion and cognition. However, such experiments have yielded mixed results, especially with respect to cognition. This study aimed to investigate whethe...
